a living mystery
“To be a witness does not consist in engaging in propaganda, nor even in stirring people up, but in being a living mystery. It means to live in such a way that one’s life would not make sense if God did not exist.”
-Cardinal Emmanuel Célestin Suhard
a prayer for hospitality
Dear gracious and loving God,
Help me see what I don’t sometimes see.
Show me needs and how I might meet them.
Give me your love in extraordinary measure,
And then guide me how and where to express it.
When I share my table,
my home,
or my life,
bless me with your bounty.
For what I have is yours;
and what I give to others
Is you.
Amen.
-The Paraclete Book of Hospitality
calling seraphs
embracing children in the arms of thy mercy
“O Lord Jesus Christ,
who dost embrace children with the arms of thy mercy,
and dost make them living members of thy Church;
Give this child grace, we pray thee,
to stand fast in thy faith,
to obey thy word,
and to abide in thy love;
that, being made strong by the Holy Spirit,
she may resist temptation and overcome evil,
and may rejoice in the life that now is,
and dwell with thee in the life that is to come;
through thy merits, O merciful Savior,
who with the Father and the Holy Ghost
livest and reignest one God,
world without end.
Amen.

let me be still this day
Almighty God,
You know the innermost fears of our soul:
The worry, the expectancy, the milling about of the mind.
When I seek you I am distracted. When I run after you I am lost.
I search for you but cannot find you. I cannot find myself.
No one knows their own heart, it is deceitful.
Teach me to know myself as you do, in the stillness.
The groaning of my soul is a calling from deep to deep.
Your Spirit hears and responds in mediation.
Let me be still this day. Remove from me my worries and cares.
Let my mind, heart, soul and body be filled with the breath of God.
Amen.

CHRIST be with me.
Christ within me.
Christ behind me.
Christ before me.
Christ beside me.
Christ to win me.
Christ to comfort
and restore me.
Christ beneath me.
Christ above me.
Christ in quiet,
Christ in danger.
Christ in hearts of
all that love me.
CHRIST in mouth of
friend and stranger.
